Adrenal glands

The adrenal glands produce hormones that help regulate metabolism, immune system and blood pressure response to stress and other vital functions;  produce adrenaline, steroids, aldosterone and cortisol, an adrenal-cortex hormone (Hydrocortone) that is active in carbohydrate and protein metabolism. A corticosteroid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex; is converted to hydrocortisone.


 The adrenal cortex produces three kinds of steroid hormones.

 1 Mineralocorticoids hormone is one of the steroids of the adrenal cortex which regulates the metabolism of sodium and potassium.

2 Glucocorticoids is a steroid hormone that is produced by the adrenal cortex and affects the functioning of gonads and has anti-inflammatory activity.

3 Androgens are a male sex hormone which is to produce in the testes and accountable for typical male sexual characteristics.


Overstressed and under functions of adrenal glands are a foremost condition of chronic anxiety and depression; numerous other endocrine diseases comprise with dysfunctions of the adrenal gland. Several endocrine complications include dysfunctions of the adrenal gland; whereas overproduction of cortisol leads to Cushing's syndrome (a glandular disorder that to be caused by excessive cortisol); inadequate production is associated with Addison's disease. Addison's disease is a glandular disorder caused by a failure of function of the cortex of the adrenal gland and marked by anaemia and prostration with brownish skin. When the adrenal glands do not work correctly, then high blood pressure, frequent cold and hormones imbalances resulted in the body.
